About me

Welcome to desertmum!

I’m Lucy, currently a freelance writer and stay-at-home mum to Mister (8), Missy (6), Monkey (3) and Meerkat (3) – not their real names! I’m married to Desert Dad (ditto), and we live in York, England. When I’m not faffing about with my kids, I enjoy cooking, baking, writing lists, entertaining, talking, eating curry, eating chocolate, drinking dessert wine (preferably with some chocolate), making music, moaning about how I don’t have time to scrap-book, and dreaming up ideas I don’t have time to see into action. I don’t like beetroot, having nothing to do, wearing black, football, the time it takes to make me look less shattered of a morning, and rain. Occasionally I catch myself saying something my Mum would say.

Prior to life in York, I was a music educator in Cheshire, Essex and Cambridge, working with teenagers in secondary schools as well as graduates training to be music teachers. I loved it! But I love more the job I do now πŸ™‚

Thank you for being here. I’d love to connect with you on Facebook and Twitter!

  1. Came across your site, not sure how, but I really enjoyed reading everything, from the talk about schools to the adoption. Massively proud of everything you’re doing. Also, your pics look amazeballs πŸ˜‰
You seem to being both a great mum and a great writer. As an uncle I can offer some advise – make “schoom” noises when the kids knock over dominoes. It’s earned me much kudos.
    lots of love
